eastern roots was established in 1999, by Tony Morrison who started out promoting concerts in Manchester in the 80's within the indie scene, becoming involved in 'Madchester' and then drifting somehow into 'world music', particularly Latin, African & Reggae.

The aim is simple, to bring to the eastern region a mix of music that had previously been forgotten, music whose roots come from all over the world. Hence the name.

Since then Eastern Roots has brought to Colchester the likes of: Daby Toure, Julian Marley, Johnny Polanco, Mikey Dread, Los Amigos Invisible, Abbysinians, Johnny Clarke, Dillinger, Shri, Tony Allen, Palop Africa, Morgan Heritage, Modeste Hughes, Justin Adams amongst many others and was the producer of the first uk tour by Tinariwen.
