CHORO & SAMBA – THE MUSIC of BRAZIL
APRIL 25 2009
Colchester Lakeside Theatre
University of Essex
Wivenhoe Park
Colchester
Brazil’s greatest musical export is undoubtedly the samba, and the songs of samba, together with its instrumental twin style choro, form a tradition of acoustic music stretching back more than a century. Caratinga bring the irresistible rhythms and beautiful melodies of this great tradition to life in a programme of wonderful acoustic music and song.
A stunning Anglo-Brazilian line-up of virtuoso acoustic musicians features Anselmo Netto on mandolin, Jonathan Preiss on seven-stringed guitar. Leandra Varanda on vocals and Felipe Karam on cavaquinho.
With dazzling acoustic interplay, infectious rhythms and gorgeous songs from over a century of Brazilian music, Caratinga have delighted audiences at festivals, theatres and arts centres throughout the UK which have included the National Theatre’s Watch This Space festival, the Eden Project, and the Royal Albert Hall’s Ignite series. www.caratinga-music.co.uk/
